Stamped Concrete Patios: When They Make Sense (and When They Don't)

Most of what we pour is driveways and shop slabs. But we get asked about stamped patios all the time, so here's a straight take on when stamped concrete is worth it and when a broom finish or plain pour does the job better.
When stamped makes sense
Larger entertaining patios where you actually want the look of stone or tile but don't want to pay tile prices and don't want grout to maintain. A well-executed stamp on a 400+ sq ft patio looks great for 15+ years with a periodic re-seal.
When it doesn't
High-traffic driveways and shop floors — stamp wears down where tires turn and where you walk most. We almost never recommend stamped driveways. Broom finish lasts longer and looks better as it ages.
Our patio defaults
Most homeowners we work with end up going with a clean broom finish or a saw-cut pattern on a smooth trowel finish. Looks sharp, holds up forever, costs less than stamped. We'll always tell you honestly which way to go for your project.
